Family therapy presents new dimensions for ethical decision-making. When working with more than one family member, the therapist must be attuned to the needs of each, even when they are in conflict. For example, the decisions about the confidentiality of balancing the privacy of a youngster with respect for parents concerning their safety.
An overview of family therapy ethics in today's society will be presented and workshop attendees will explore ethical dilemmas and the decision-making process. Participants will then be invited to share their own difficult situations in working with couples and families for an interactive group discussion.
