Reducing anxiety is a central component of the healing process in psychotherapy. Whether the anxiety arises out of temperamental disposition, trauma, stress or internal conflict, it has common physical and psychological characteristics.
Meditation techniques and the Eastern wisdom traditions have much to offer both therapist and patient. The therapist’s ability to create a non-threatening, healing relationship requires a calm, clear mind that is non-judgmental, curious, accepting and open. Mindfulness practice teaches these skills. Sharing specific meditation techniques with those who seek our help can help facilitate self-regulation, self-exploration and in some instances experiences of self-transcendence
This workshop will cover topics regarding the nature of meditation, the psychophysiological manifestations of anxiety and include an exploration of the recent Polyvagal Theory of anxiety regulation. Specific meditations will be taught. No prior experience of meditation is necessary.
