How does one date in the time of COVID-19?

How does one find a date? Get to know each other? Have safer sex?

As it has become clear that the pandemic is lasting longer

than people hoped, many patients are missing a social

and sexual life, often discussing feelings of loneliness, hopelessness,

and concern about exposure to the virus. This presentation will discuss

how to explore these issues in psychotherapy including assessing

risk-tolerance and risk-taking, helping patients balance emotional/sexual

needs with safety, and managing transference and countertransference.

Suzanne Iasenza, PhD is on the faculties of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) in NYC, the Ackerman Institute for the Family, and the Adelphi University Derner Institute’s Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She also teaches at the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She maintains a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York City. Her latest book, Transforming Sexual Narratives: A Relational Approach to Sex Therapy was published by Routledge (2020).
